At the Water Pollution Control Facility, our highly trained, NY State certified staff ensure sewage and water are cleaned so that they can be returned to the environment at standards defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Water Pollution Control Facility removed solids and pollutants, breaks down organic matter and restores the oxygen content of treated water. They achieve these results through three sets of operations: premliminary, secordary and sludge treatment processes. On average, the Water Pollution Control Facility processes 500,000 to 600,000 gallons of wastewater per day. The Village of Sidney Water Treatment staff are New York State Certified grade 2B operators. These highly trained and dedicated employees also staff the Water Pollution Control Facility. This is rare dual certification provided the Village and its taxpayers with less financial burden than employing separate staff at each facility. The water treatment staff provide quality drinking water that is regulated by the New York State Department of Health, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Susquehanna River Basin Commission. The water treatment staff are responsible for overseeing the treatment of 500,000 to 600,000 gallons of portable water per day. Question concerning the treatment of water for the Village can be answered by reading the Annual Water Quality Report (AWQR). The Water Treatment staff also offers water testing for the general public. The testing is conducted by the Life Science Laboratories Inc. located in Syracuse, NY. Samples are accepted on Wednesday's between the hours of 7:00am- to 12:00pm. Sample bottles and instructions can be picked up at our facility Waste Water Treatment Plant.
